I wanted to do a distance run last Saturday, just to see how many times I could run up and down the Tennessee Ridge. By 9:30 A.M. I was in the back of an ambulance and glad to be alive! The back fender had a loose bolt. The tire grabbed the fender and twisted it around so that the fender was between the tire and the pavement. Suddenly it was as though my back tire was on ice. I started sliding into traffic and then went down. I don't remember much after that. There were a lot of cars around when I wrecked in both directions, so when I woke up I heard a lot of voices and most of them were saying "Don't move him", or "I bet his neck is broken". I lay there checking myself out. I had slammed my head on the pavement so hard I don't think I would be alive if it weren't for the full face legal helmet. Once again, nothing broken and no concussion, but man am I sore and what a headache! As I analyzed the situation one IRREFUTABLE fact came back to me again and again...if I had been on three wheels neither accident would have been anything more than an "inconvenience". When something goes wrong on two wheels it goes REAL wrong, REAL fast! I can't sell these vehicles in good conscience. I love playing with these things but two wheels is just too unforgiving. Yes, I could fix this but what next..It's just not worth it. Here's my opinion, two wheels, 20 mph, electric help up the hills...fine on a bicycle based vehicle. Anything else and it needs to be on three wheels. It's not just what you do to yourself, oh no, it's what they do to you while you're out of control, or crashing, or laying there! We can whip this oil thing, and this pollution thing, and this exercise thing, but let's do it sensibly! Minimize the risk as much as you can always!
On a positive, happy note...Many of you are featured in a new 'questions an answers' section on the web site! The only thing I edited out was full names and addresses. I don't hold back any questions, comments, or anything. One thing you'll realize pretty quickly is your a great and VERY polite bunch. Some of the last three weeks may not be there but everything else is. Some of you even ask your questions with incredible creativity and humor, so enjoy! God Bless Y'all and be Safe! Jay
