Wow, we did it; and you've got to see the shows on Discovery Channel! Don't search, just go to www.gumfrog.com/dailyplanet with username: previewguest and password: prevuuu3 and then click on Oct 2007 and then go to Oct 30/07-Jay Perdue and also to Nov 22/07-Jay Perdue. They did an awesome job of telling our story!
We exceeded all our goals but one! We toped out at 60 mph, never got below 45 climbing hills, got 320 mpg on one leg of the trip and went 160 miles on one charge of batteries on another leg of the trip. Without shocks or springs bad pavement was our #1 enemy and we trailered past sections of highway and the last 100 miles to miss an approaching Northern of 50 mph wind! We still got 700 miles of the trip and that was great even though short of our goal! Thanks for keeping up. It has been great and ExerTrike Tri-Hybrid blew us and everyone on the interstate away at it's performance, handling, stability, and unbelievable economy! You've got to get one of these vehicles to even begin to understand how cool and fun they are!
God bless;

Jay's 1000 mile trip from Erin, Tennessee to Amarillo, Texas November 17-20, 2007. We left Erin, TN on Saturday morning, and rode on two lane country roads to the new ferry stop at Danville. We then boarded the ferry with the ExerTrike, and all three chase vehicles. We rode across Kentucky Lake, and proceeded on two lane roads through the country side until we reached Interstate 40 at Jackson, TN. From there we stayed on I-40 all the way to Amarillo, TX.

We're back on track! After the controller scare my prediction was right on. He's very shy but I have to give credit to our local electronics genius Larry Greenhill. He tested the controllers and motors in ways that should have already been done and realized the motors at 72 volts put out a 106 volt spike when released; enough to blow every 100 volt FET in the system. He replaced all with 150 volt FET's and we ran 50 miles and topped out at 51 to 52 mph climbing moderate hills at 43 mph and using just 22 ounces of gasoline. That's 292.01 miles per gallon! (really close to my 300 mpg calculation). We may leave a day early on Friday!
More tomorrow,

Today was as disappointing as yesterday was exciting to say the least! We blew the last of 2 72 volt controllers, the only two "working" controllers we know of in the USA! Several claim to have on a working, or about to be working, but these Chinese controllers are #@%@! Thank God we have a local electronics genius without whom we would not be able to make this trip. Even the modifications published on several websites didn't hold up, so we're going way overboard to make these things work. We should be tweaking, not working on controllers at this point! Can you tell I'm ticked ?! As soon as we have something we'll post it!
Thanks for keeping up with the last minute drama!

Today was an exciting day! Everything came together for the first time! The 2.5 hp Honda 4-stroke, the 6 batteries powering to 72 volts and the 72 volt controller all hit together to climb hills at 40 mph and stretch out flat at over 50 mph. I came back to get someone to chase me down the highway to get an official top sustained speed but the #41 chain broke from the Staton transmission to the jack axle so check back tomorrow and we'll have it for you then! Until next time!

Today has been an exciting day! We got a phone call from The Discovery channel saying that the segment on 'Daily Planet' will air in 13 countries tonight at 6:00 P.M. C.S.T.! Two of the countries are Canada and Mexico. By law we can't publish the pass code to gain entrance to play the show in the U.S. but, as I understand it, the show will return to the U.S. in early 08!
Thanks for watching for this!

The ExerTrike-TriHybrid 1,000 mile 'EPA' run at 300 mpg! is almost here. We'll have an unveiling of the unit to make the trip Nov. 8th, 9th, or 10th, just as soon as we know what's best for the media. The 1,000 mile run will start Nov. 17th on Saturday morning. We'll go 50 to 60 miles at a time for approximately 333 miles each day, arriving in Amarillo on Monday evening. Local, regional and even international news media have already shown interest and even begun making plans to cover the event. we'll update here each day from now till the event and even after.
Thanks and God bless,
Jay Perdue
